The Best Gift

Well, the time of year has come again for lots of shopping, snow, Christmas carols, red and green decorations and hot coccoa. I think it's fair to say that most people love this time of year and (especially the kids) love to get up early on Christmas morning and see what Santa Clause has left under the tree for them. This year however, the gift I am most excited for is one that cannot be placed under a tree or in a stocking.

This year, what I want most for Christmas, what I absolutely cannot wait for, the highlight of it all will be (Drum roll please) talking to my big brother and best pal!! It's been somewhere around 4 months (Okay, yes I know it's creepy that I know the actual number of months) since I have actually talked to my brother. Weekly emails that are getting quite religious and personal emails that come every other week and are only two sentences long just aren't cutting it for me. So, on Christmas when the phone rings and "LDS Missions" fills the caller ID I can guarentee that that will be the thing which will make my entire holiday season. No our conversation won't get to be very long and it will most likely be filled with tears (on my end) but it will most certainly be the best gift.

Irreplaceable

To some people a best friend is a person who comes in their life, they get close with for awhile and then that person leaves them for whatever reason. For me, this is not even close to true. My best friend has been at my side ever since I can remember. She has been the friend who has made me laugh, let me cry on her shoulder, missed a party to be with me while I was sick, let me rant, helped me with homework....get the point? She's always there!

Today, she is seventeen. Seventeen years is a long time to get to know someone and so here are seventeen things I love about my best friend.

1. She's HILARIOUS

2. Her sarcasm :)

3. Kind

4. Her ability to listen

5. She's Smart

6. Pretty as all get out!

7. Good at guitar

8. Late-night pep talks she gives

9. She's willing to play all sorts of outrageous games with me

10. Her laugh

11. She brings flowers to me when I help her with homework

12. When I'm scared, she'll text me no matter what time it is

13. Her quiet stubborness

14. The nicknames she gives

15. She will walk around a public place singing a ridiculous song with me

16. She tells it how it is

17. My bestie is IRREPLACEABLE

Happy Birthday best friend! I love you and I'm so thankful for you and everything you do for me!! :) You really are irreplaceable.

Life Soundtrack

In every movie, there is music that makes it easy to identify the mood of the current scence. So I got thinking, wouldn't it be sweet if we actually had that in life? We've all seen those scary movies where that creeper is coming up behind that girl and she has no clue, we of course do because the music is telling us something bad is about to happen. I would love it if for every time my sister's and I were stalked we had some music that said "hey, weirdo at six o'clock!"

Then of course there would be songs that would play right before you meet the guy of your dreams. Probably something like Taylor Swift. (Just not T-Swift bashing on some guy she dated and broke up with.) And the Adele songs you'd listen to after that heartbreak. I'm feeling "Someone like you" for that one. Throw in some Daniel Powter for a really crappy dayand some Usher or Jason Duerlo if you're about to walk into a really crazy party.

Sometimes I wonder what my days would mostly be made up of. I bet I would have a lot of Taylor Swift and Jason Duerlo. Maybe a little country if I was feeling loose. What would your Life Soundtrack sound like?

Time to grow up?

When you’re little and carefree you don’t spend a whole lot of time planning the tiniest details of your life. You’re biggest worry is what time Arthur comes on or whether or not you will be able to have a sleepover this weekend. You spend you’re time playing Barbie’s, house or showing off your dance moves to your sister’s Backstreet Boys CD.

But does what you do with your time as child tell something about your life? My sister spent her time telling other people how to play and now for a living she teaches autistic kids how to play. One of my brothers has broken his arm several times and I think it’s fair to say that he spent half of his childhood in the Doctor’s office. What does he want to do? Be an orthopedic surgeon. As for me, I did lots of things. I bossed my best friends around, played that I had several kids, pretended to be a teacher, and drew countless pictures of my hand with the title “This is my hand. I LOVE my hand.” So what does that say about me? My parents will tell you that since I’ve discovered my love of Sign language recently my love for hands came honestly. They say that I’ll probably teach sign language or something. Who knows?

I’ll think about it and let you know when I’ve decided….but, I’m pretty sure it’s not time for me to grow up yet.
